Loving small-town life – living and working in Ilmenau

Not only families, but also people without children enjoy living and working in Ilmenau. The small town in the Thuringian Forest has an excellent infrastructure, such as an indoor ice rink, a new indoor swimming pool which opened in autumn 2020, an outdoor swimming pool, numerous hiking trails, mountain bike trails and cycle paths in summer and winter hiking trails, sledding hills and cross-country ski trails in winter.

Thanks to many local companies, most of which have a technological focus, research and transfer facilities in the IT, glass and metal industries, traditional crafts and service providers, as well as Technische Universität Ilmenau, Ilmenau offers a large number of jobs, many of which can be easily reached on foot or by bicycle. In addition, you can quickly reach the provincial capital Erfurt or Bavaria by public transportation.
